General

What does “Girivana” mean?

The name joins two Sanskrit words: giri, mountain, and vana, forest. It reflects the wild landscapes where many Ayurvedic herbs traditionally grow, and our mark combines a mountain and a leaf in a single shape.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is India’s traditional system of wellbeing, with written texts going back more than two thousand years. It emphasises daily routine, diet and the use of herbs, minerals and spices suited to each person.

What is a rasayana herb?

In Ayurveda, rasayana describes rejuvenating herbs and preparations taken regularly to support strength, vitality and healthy ageing. Ashwagandha, shatavari, amla and shilajit are well-known examples.

What are the three doshas?

Ayurveda describes three functional energies in the body: vata (movement), pitta (transformation) and kapha (structure). Everyone has all three in a unique balance. Read our simple guide to the doshas.

Do I need to see an Ayurvedic practitioner?

It is a good idea, especially if you take medication, have a medical condition, are pregnant or nursing, or are buying for a child. A registered practitioner (BAMS or MD Ayurveda) can recommend herbs suited to your constitution.

Products

What is the difference between single-herb and multi-herb products?

A single-herb product contains one botanical only, such as ashwagandha root powder. A multi-herb formulation combines several herbs that Ayurveda traditionally uses together. Our Reserve collection is single-herb; our Formulations collection is multi-herb, with every ingredient and its quantity listed.

Are Girivana capsules vegetarian?

Yes. Girivana capsules use HPMC, a shell made from plant cellulose, so they are suitable for vegetarians.

How should I take Ayurvedic capsules?

Follow the directions on the label, which usually suggest taking capsules after meals with warm water or milk. Do not exceed the stated dose, and ask a registered Ayurvedic practitioner if you are unsure what suits you.

How should herbal supplements be stored?

Keep the jar tightly closed in a cool, dry place below 25 °C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Use within the expiry date printed on the label.

How long does a jar last?

A 60-capsule jar lasts 30 days at two capsules a day. A 20 g jar of shilajit resin lasts roughly 40 to 60 days at the traditional pea-sized portion.

Can I take more than one Girivana product at a time?

Many people do. Check the labels so you do not take the same herb twice from different products, and ask your practitioner if you take medication.

Quality

Are Girivana products tested by an independent laboratory?

Yes. Every Girivana product is tested by an independent laboratory before release, and only products that meet every limit are released for sale.

What are Girivana herbs tested for?

Testing covers heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium), microbial limits (total plate count, yeast and mould, E. coli and Salmonella), pesticide residue and, where relevant, a marker compound that helps confirm the herb’s identity and quality.

What does “no fillers” mean?

Our single-herb capsules contain only the powdered herb inside a vegetarian capsule shell. We do not add bulking agents, flow agents, binders or colours.

What is a certificate of analysis (COA)?

A certificate of analysis is a laboratory’s report on a product. It lists each test, the method used, the result and the permitted limit. Contact our team if you would like to see the certificate for a Girivana product.

Why do you show the botanical name?

Common names vary from region to region, and different plants can share a name. The botanical (Latin) name identifies exactly which plant is in the jar.

Safety

Can I take Ayurvedic herbs if I am pregnant, nursing or on medication?

Please speak to your doctor or a qualified healthcare professional or your doctor before starting any herbal product if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or managing a medical condition. Specific cautions are listed on each product page and label.

What is a Schedule E(1) ingredient?

Schedule E(1) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules lists potent ingredients that must be used under medical supervision. Any product containing one is clearly marked on its product page.

What should I do if I have a reaction?

Stop using the product and speak to a doctor. Please also contact us with the product name and the details printed on the jar so we can investigate.

Wholesale

Can my pharmacy, store or clinic stock Girivana?
