Questions about Ashwagandha?

About Ashwagandha
Girivana Ashwagandha capsules contain one ingredient only: pure ashwagandha root powder (Withania somnifera), 750 mg in every vegetarian capsule. We use the mature root and mill it without fillers, binders, flow agents or colours.
In Ayurveda, ashwagandha is one of the best-known rasayana herbs, a group of botanicals traditionally taken to support strength, stamina and a calm, steady response to everyday stress. It is tested for heavy metals, microbial limits and withanolide content before release.
Why a single herb?
A single-herb capsule lets you know exactly what you are taking and how much. There is nothing else in the capsule except the vegetarian shell, so the 750 mg on the label is 750 mg of ashwagandha root.
Root, not leaf
Classical Ayurvedic preparations use the root of the plant. Some products on the market blend in leaves or stems, which is why we state the part used on the front of the jar.

Ashwagandha: frequently asked questions
How many Ashwagandha capsules should I take a day?
Follow the directions on the label: usually one capsule twice daily after meals with warm water or milk, or as directed by your healthcare professional.
Is this an extract or a powder?
It is whole root powder, not an extract. Each capsule holds 750 mg of milled ashwagandha root.
Are the capsules vegetarian?
Yes. The capsule shell is made from HPMC, a plant-cellulose material.
Can I take Ashwagandha with Shatavari?
They are often taken together in Ayurvedic practice. If you take medication or have a medical condition, check with your physician first.
What is the difference between single-herb and multi-herb products?
A single-herb product contains one botanical only, such as ashwagandha root powder. A multi-herb formulation combines several herbs that Ayurveda traditionally uses together. Our Reserve collection is single-herb; our Formulations collection is multi-herb, with every ingredient and its quantity listed.
Are Girivana capsules vegetarian?
Yes. Girivana capsules use HPMC, a shell made from plant cellulose, so they are suitable for vegetarians.
How should I take Ayurvedic capsules?
Follow the directions on the label, which usually suggest taking capsules after meals with warm water or milk. Do not exceed the stated dose, and ask a registered Ayurvedic practitioner if you are unsure what suits you.
How should herbal supplements be stored?
Keep the jar tightly closed in a cool, dry place below 25 °C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Use within the expiry date printed on the label.
Are Girivana products tested by an independent laboratory?
Yes. Every Girivana product is tested by an independent laboratory before release, and only products that meet every limit are released for sale.
What are Girivana herbs tested for?
Testing covers heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium), microbial limits (total plate count, yeast and mould, E. coli and Salmonella), pesticide residue and, where relevant, a marker compound that helps confirm the herb’s identity and quality.
What does “no fillers” mean?
Our single-herb capsules contain only the powdered herb inside a vegetarian capsule shell. We do not add bulking agents, flow agents, binders or colours.
What is a certificate of analysis (COA)?
A certificate of analysis is a laboratory’s report on a product. It lists each test, the method used, the result and the permitted limit. Contact our team if you would like to see the certificate for a Girivana product.
How long does a jar last?
A 60-capsule jar lasts 30 days at two capsules a day. A 20 g jar of shilajit resin lasts roughly 40 to 60 days at the traditional pea-sized portion.
Can I take more than one Girivana product at a time?
Many people do. Check the labels so you do not take the same herb twice from different products, and ask your practitioner if you take medication.
Why do you show the botanical name?
Common names vary from region to region, and different plants can share a name. The botanical (Latin) name identifies exactly which plant is in the jar.
